Charbonnel Red Poliment (Gilder’s Clay Base) is ideal for pre-treating supports when applying gold leaf. It contains pure aluminum oxide, oxide and water, and is a paste which is dilutable with water.

When applying the Charbonnel Red Poliment, it is important to avoid painting over a freshly painted surface. It should be applied in 3 – 4 layers, with each succeeding layer only applied after the previous one is completely dry.
